Ordering Tips

Measuring

When measuring exterior shutters to be historically correct, shutters should fit inside the exterior casing, using the correct hardware. If your windows are new, with metal or plastic jambs you may want to add 3/4" to each shutter width. Care must be taken not to pierce the window jamb when nailing in the pintle which supports the hinge. If you're not sure, call us. We will be happy to answer all your questions.

Exterior shutters: Measure inside window casing; width and height.

Interior shutters: Measure from window sill to inside top of casing. For half window shutters, measure from sill to top of lower window. When measuring width for inside shutters always measure bottom, middle, and top of window between the trim. Use smallest measurement.

Choosing Finish

Painting is an integral part of our shutters. Each shutter is primed with two coats of stain blocking sealer, then one coat of enamel undercoater for interior shutters or a heavy body exterior primer for exterior shutters. Sanding is done between each coat, and then two or three coats of finish paint are applied matching your sample color.

We have access to many different paint companies in our area, which allows us to match your paint color. We pride ourselves in our paint finishes. If you have any questions please call us.

Shutter Hardware

All of the hinges are galvanized cast iron and can be painted any color, by using a metal cleaning solution and spray-painting with a rustproof paint.

If you have particular style of hinge or holdback you wish to use just ask us and we will make an effort to find what you need. There are many more hinge designs, holdbacks and openers that have been used to hang shutters and most are very expensive to buy. We offer the more common types and less expensive to keep the overall cost of your shutters down.
